We are always on the lookout for talented individuals to join our team. The Opportunity: The National Post is hiring a General Assignment Reporter. The National Post is the flagship of the Postmedia Network, Canada's largest news chain which includes the Vancouver Sun, Calgary Herald, Edmonton Journal, Ottawa Citizen and Montreal Gazette. What you’ll do: The ideal candidate is an enterprising self-starter and team player with a sense for stories that resonate with the NP’s readership, and who is unafraid to challenge conventional wisdom. The candidate should be able to cultivate sources and break news on tight deadlines, while writing in a way that is clear, concise and engaging. Responsibilities include both contributions to the daily news file and writing in-depth features. The candidate will be based in Toronto, and be expected to cover news in the Toronto area as necessary. Who you are: You have 3+ years of newsroom experience. As a general assignment reporter, your ability to be flexible and learn on the go are essential. Flexibility to write effectively in breaking news, and short form is essential. Experience in video is an asset. Compensation: Employment offers presented to the selected candidate are based on a combination of qualifications, experience, responsibilities of the role and the candidate's location. Base Salary: $63,937.75 This is a unionized position subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement. The starting salary listed in this job posting is based on the Year 1 rate outlined in the collective agreement. Offers will be made based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
