We’re looking for an experienced Senior Commercial Estimator who can confidently take ownership of the estimating function, work autonomously, and become an integral part of the business for years to come. Qualifications & Skills • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering or a related discipline. • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a Commercial Estimator role, with more extensive experience highly regarded. • Previous experience working for a Principal Contractor on commercial construction projects is essential. • Demonstrated experience pricing commercial projects from approx. £250,000 to £1.5 million. • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple tenders simultaneously. • Strong understanding of construction estimating principles, tendering processes and commercial awareness. • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and technical documentation with accuracy. • Excellent analytical, numerical & problem-solving skills & exceptional attention to detail. • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint. • Exposure to AI-enabled workflows in GHL would be advantageous but is not essential. • Understanding of standard forms of construction contracts would be advantageous. • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise competing deadlines. • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the confidence to participate in internal and occasional client meetings. • A proactive, self-motivated professional who takes ownership of their work, embraces continuous improvement and is committed to delivering work to the highest standard. • Stable employment history of loyalty and long-term commitment is highly regarded. Responsibilities • Prepare accurate and commercially competitive cost estimates by reviewing project drawings, specifications and tender documentation. • Produce detailed quantity take-offs for labour, materials and plant requirements. • Manage the complete tender process from initial enquiry through to final submission. • Obtain, assess and negotiate quotations from subcontractors and suppliers to achieve best value. • Prepare and issue subcontractor enquiries and manage tender queries throughout the estimating process. • Identify commercial risks, opportunities and value engineering solutions within tender submissions. • Manage and maintain project documentation using SharePoint and company systems. • Work directly with the Directors throughout the pre-construction phase to deliver high-quality estimates and secure new business opportunities. • Attend internal meetings and, where required, participate in client meetings in a professional and confident manner. • Manage multiple live tenders while supporting active construction projects. • Help develop and continuously improve estimating processes, systems and best practices. • Maintain accurate supplier, subcontractor and cost databases. • Ensure all estimating documentation is organised, accurate and completed within agreed milestones and deadlines. • Keep up to date with industry developments, commercial trends and emerging estimating technologies.
