Recreation Specialist

Individuals selected for this position will be responsible for scheduling, planning, and conducting recreation therapy programs and functional skills classes for patients. This will include substitute coverage and evening and weekend activity coverage. Conducts rehab assessments and may be a unit team member. May oversee special events that include volunteers and outside groups. This position is for a variety of shifts. Performs related duties as required. Mandatory overtime is an essential function of this position. Applicants selected for employment must successfully complete a chemical urinalysis and breath analysis drug screening test. This is a tobacco free facility. 0512P01627| **Education:** | Successful completion of sixty (60) semester hours with at least eighteen (18) hours in health, physical education, recreation, fine arts and/or therapeutic recreation from an accredited college or university. | | --- | --- | | **Education Substitution:** | Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in the field of health, physical education, recreation, or fine arts may substitute for the required education. | | **Licensure/Certifications:** | Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) from the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) **OR** certification as a Activity Professional Certified (APC) from the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals (NCCAP) may substitute for the required education. | | **Experience:** | None. | William R. Sharpe, Jr. Hospital holds accreditation from The Joint Commission and certification by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS). The hospital offers a wide range of services to patients either committed to the hospital through civil commitment or, in the case of forensic patients, ordered through the judicial system. Through ongoing collaboration with West Virginia University’s Department of Behavioral Medicine & Psychiatry, a variety of medical and clinical professionals partner with the hospital’s own staff to work diligently with patients to achieve a smooth transition back to the community after discharge.
