JOB SUMMARY: The Clinic Medical Assistant is responsible for scheduling patient appointments and maintaining clinic schedule and workflow for specialty providers per practice guidelines. Determines the purpose of appointment and schedules or directs patient to appropriate department. Responds to and coordinates incoming referrals in collaboration with nursing and provider staff. Prepares patient records for scheduled appointments allowing productive patient appointments. Answers and appropriately triages incoming department phone calls. Communicates messages effectively to nursing and provider staff using electronic medical record. Under general supervision, assists in the delivery of patient care, clinical and clerical duties. Works collaboratively with the healthcare team to meet the needs of the patient and family. Schedule: PRN (as needed) Monday - Friday 8am-5pm Compensation: $21.20/hr + DOE PRN Differential ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Excellent listening and communication skills, professional demeanor, and passion for exceptional customer service. Confidently answer and convert call into scheduled appointment. Detailed knowledge of clinical specialties. An understanding of each providers skills and abilities to easily make scheduling decisions. Maintains and reviews patient records, charts and other pertinent information. Requests outside medical records as needed. Obtains and records patients� weight, blood pressure, pulse, height and other vital signs. Obtains and records patients� reason for visit. Authorizes drug refills as directed by physicians or standing orders. Arranges for patient testing as needed. Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials. Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls appropriately. Assists providers and nursing staff with clerical needs. Actively participates in Performance Improvement. Accepts accountability for own actions. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for attending at least 90% of nursing staff meetings. Completion of all required educational competencies. Attending all mandatory in-service classes. QUALIFICATIONS (Required): High School Diploma or its equivalent. Current CPR certification. Ability to treat all information as confidential. Previous work experience with specialty clinic/hospital/multi-department scheduling ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Certified Medical Assistant preferred. Six (6) months experience as a Medical Assistant preferred. Detail oriented. Positive attitude and flexibility during routine workday. Good verbal and written communication skills. Well-groomed, tactful, patient, pleasant and customer focused.
