The Associate Dean of Life Sciences Foundation is a full-time administrative appointment reporting to the assigned administrator. The Associate Dean of Life Sciences Foundation supervises day-to-day activities of faculty, staff, and students related to academic programs. **ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS** - Responsible to the assigned administrator and has a support responsibility to all other departments and college personnel as necessary. - Responsible for the direct supervision of department personnel and others as assigned by the appropriate administrator. **SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** - Participate in the strategic planning process. - Supervise faculty, staff, and student work-study employees. - Coordinate the development and implementation of new program openings and curriculum innovation. - Administer the CBA and Staff Handbook; may serve as college official. - Manage faculty workload/assignments. - Communicate workload calculations and associated pay to the Human Resources. - Recruit and retain high quality faculty and staff. - Serve as College Official for student adjudication hearings. - Evaluate faculty and staff in accordance with institutional timelines and practices. - Develop and manage accurate and timely budgets. - Monitor the quality and delivery of courses. - Evaluate and appropriately resource the department. - Monitor the quality of educational materials. - Advance best practices in course and program learning assessment. - Administer Academic Affairs and College policies in accordance with institutional practices. - Manage student/faculty/staff complaints in accordance with institutional practices. - Determine and advance development needs of faculty and staff. - Provide written reports as requested by the Dean of Academic Affairs. - Conduct faculty and staff hiring processes in accordance with institutional practices. - Monitor departmental equipment for functioning and use. - Serve on committees as assigned. - Attend external meetings and conferences as requested by the Dean of Academic Affairs. - Perform all responsibilities in a manner that fully complies with Palmer’s Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action policy. - Perform other duties as assigned. **KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES** - Strong interpersonal, oral, written, public speaking and organizational skills. - Above average ability to utilize electronic technologies and various software programs, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. - Ability to understand and demonstrate commitment to the college guiding documents. - Ability to effectively manage conflict. - Ability to generate, oversee, and successfully complete projects. - Ability to perform assigned duties with frequent interruptions and time pressures. - Ability to work independently and autonomously. - Ability to supervise and motivate others. - Ability to serve as a strong advocate for quality academic programs. - Ability to work various hours as job requires. **EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE** - Requires a first professional degree or a graduate degree in an applicable field. Experience in and/or education related to academic administration, academic program development and assessment in a higher education environment preferred. Strong supervisory skills preferred. **PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT** - Perform sedentary to light work in a ventilated, lighted, and temperature controlled office setting. - Frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, sit, lift light objects (up to 10 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the workday.
