Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to match student ability levels. Work in self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree or higher Valid Texas teacher's certificate with required Special Education endorsement for assignment Necessary endorsements Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of subject(s) assigned Knowledge of curriculum and instruction Ability to instruct students using specialized, research-based strategies and manage their behavior Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Instructional Strategies Develops and implements lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Presents subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations. Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Plans and supervises assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s). Uses technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process. Works cooperatively with general education teachers to modify curricula as needed for students with disabilities according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plan (IEP). Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements. Prepares for and conducts ARD committee meetings, and serves as a resource person to students, parents and teachers on the assigned campus. Ensures implementation of the educational plan (IEP) for each child within assigned caseload. Structures daily schedule to maximize academic learning time and materials preparation. Evaluates the educational plan of each student at the end of every six weeks, track and monitor progress, and provide IEP progress reports to parents. Student Growth and Development Helps students analyze and improve study methods and habits. Document student present levels of academic achievement and functional performance and collect data to measure and project academic and behavioral growth. Assumes responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsors outside activities approved by the campus principal. Be a positive role model for students, support mission of school district. Classroom Management and Organization Manages student behavior in the classroom and administers discipline according to board polices, administrative regulations, student code of conduct, and IEP. Works collaboratively with the classroom teacher to create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
