**Town of ViennaZoning Compliance Officer** **Planning & Zoning Department** Pay Grade 119: $68,588 - $110,427 **Make a Difference One Neighborhood at a Time.** Join the Town of Vienna's Planning and Zoning Department as a Zoning Compliance Officer, where you'll combine problem-solving, fieldwork, and customer service to help maintain the character and quality of one of Northern Virginia's most welcoming communities. The purpose of this class within the organization is to perform technical work to enforce the Town’s zoning regulations, inspect construction for zoning compliance, respond to complaints concerning zoning violations, and identify and resolve zoning and other property violations by working with the Department of Planning and Zoning, other Town departments, and Fairfax County. This position may assist with other duties as necessary. This class works under moderate supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. **Work Schedule:** Monday through Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Occasional early or late hours to perform inspections. **All new employees must satisfactorily complete a background check. A conditional offer of employment may then be made contingent upon the successful completion of a drug test.** **This is a Non-Exempt Position.** **The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.** **Essential Functions:** Pursues broad community compliance with the Town of Vienna regulatory codes in the areas of Zoning, Landscape, and Refuse. Educates residents, representatives of businesses and institutions, and the broader community about components of the Town code within the department’s purview. Investigates complaints regarding potential code violations by researching property records, Town and County permit records and conducting site visits to determine whether code compliance issues exist. Coordinates with the Senior Zoning Compliance Officer and the Zoning Administrator to survey the Town on a systematic basis to determine whether there are unreported code violations. Prepares and submits written notices of confirmed violations. Provides written and verbal explanations, in a sensitive manner, of options for abating violations, including all rights and responsibilities. Conducts inspections to verify compliance with conditions of approved plans and permits. Work hours are usually 8:00am – 4:30pm but occasionally require work outside of this range for inspections. **Additional Duties** **:** Maintains positive relations with co-workers and customers. Posts and removes legal signs for Town Boards and Commissions supported by the Department of Planning and Zoning. Participates in departmental meetings and assists with department-wide initiatives, as needed. Performs related work as assigned or necessary. **Responsibilities, Requirements and Impacts** **Data Responsibility:** *Data Responsibility refers to information, knowledge, and conceptions obtained by observation, investigation, interpretation, visualization, and mental creation. Data are intangible and include numbers, words, symbols, ideas, concepts, and oral verbalizations.* Uses basic computer software, including email, word processing, and spreadsheets. Uses computer-based case management and tracking systems.
