**Youth Recreation Instructor** **Department:** Recreation **FLSA Classification:** Non-Exempt **Pay Range:** $16.00 - $22.00/hour **Supervisor:** Recreation Coordinator – Sports & Athletics **Last Update:** January 2025 **POSITION SUMMARY** This part-time seasonal position implements youth programming and activities, and provides instruction to EVRPD participants. Position will instruct both private and group lessons, games, and clinics. The position will keep accurate attendance records, develop lesson plans, as well as evaluate and assess skill level and progress of all participants. This position’s work schedule and hours are flexible and may include evenings and weekends, based on programming needs. **ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** - Instruct participants in skills, techniques, and code of conduct of a specific sport or program, to youth populations, by serving as coach and mentor in support of EVRPD goals and program - Create an enjoyable experience for participants of program while teaching fundamentals of sport or program activity, and ensure that all participants have an opportunity to participate in program - Exercise and teach safety awareness and practices for the assigned program - Communicate with participants, parents, co-workers, and supervisor to help ensure success of program and address any concerns - Provide regular feedback and program evaluation to Recreation Coordinator - Establish positive rapport with all participants/parents in the program - Monitor the drop-off and pick-up of children to guarantee their safety while in our care - Assist with attendance records and data on participants - Handle and complete incident reports as necessary, and provide first aid as needed - Maintain equipment, supplies, and inventories - Ensure proper inspection of the program area/facility prior to the start of play and ascertain that the space is in safe working order - Report any maintenance problems to the Recreation Coordinator **OTHER DUTIES** - Attend staff trainings as required - Comply with and promote safe practices in agreement with the safety rules, procedures, and policies set forth by the EVRPD - Maintain positive public relations and rapport with program participants, parents, volunteers, staff, and facility users - Assist in the promotion of and conducting clinics, special events and programs in an effort to attract and maintain members’ program specific interest - Discuss concerns and make recommendations for program improvements including content, marketing efforts, scheduling, etc., to Recreation Coordinator - Perform related duties as deemed necessary or assigned **KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES** - Must possess a general knowledge of fundamentals and rules of assigned youth sport/program; coordinate and implement specific program - Assess participant skill level and lead program accordingly - Carry out assigned tasks completely and effectively - Effectively communicate with the public and fellow employees - Good organizational skills and dependability regarding practices, games, matches, etc. - Make independent decisions and ability to complete programs with minimal supervision - Demonstrate good judgment and appropriate role modeling for children - Recognize and work within a child's strength and limitations - Knowledge of and implementation of the EVRPD Weather Guidelines during severe weather conditions. - Enforce rules and regulations governing the use of the facility, its equipment and property - Understand and follow oral and written instruction - Regular and reliable attendance for all scheduled practices **EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE** - Required: - Must be at least 18 years of age. - Experience and playing abilities in sport specific area of instruction. - Preferred: - High School diploma or GED. - Sport specific instruction experience. - Bilingual in English/Spanish. **LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION** - CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications, or ability to obtain these within 60 days o…
