We are committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion at every level of the organization. **PRIMARY FUNCTION:** The Youth Development Specialist (YDS) prepares and implements programs, supervises club members, and evaluates activities and outcomes within a specific program area, supporting our priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, Good Character and Citizenship. ***This is an afterschool/summer contracted position with Scholarship Prep Charter Schools and is subject to Scholarship Prep guidelines & rules.*** **KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):** *Prepare Youth for Success* - Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development. Outcomes: - Promote and stimulate program participation with members. - Provide guidance and role modeling to members. - Provide homework help and academic support. *Program Implementation* - Effectively implement and administer services and activities for students. - Ensure the safety of students is considered when implementing programs and activities. - Ensure program space/area is organized and cleaned during and after use. *Supervision of Youth* - Provide guidance, affirm positive behavior and act as a role model and mentor to youth. - Provide a safe environment through active supervision, setting clear expectations and maintaining clean program areas. - Never leave members unsupervised and implement and follow School behavioral guidelines. *Professionalism* - Ensure a productive work environment by participating in staff meetings as required by the supervisor or senior staff. - Maintain a good reputation and moral conduct outside of work, in the community and on social media networks. - Adhere to organizational policies and procedures as described in the organization’s Employee Handbook, Staff Code of Ethics, and elsewhere. **ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:** - May participate in special programs and/or events. - May be required to drive club van periodically. **RELATIONSHIPS:** **Internal:** Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel. **External:** Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems. **SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:** - High School diploma or GED required. - Experience working with children (preferred). - Able to review and implement lesson plans provided by the district. - Knowledge of youth development stages. - Early Childhood education credits are a plus. - Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems. - Ability to deal with the general public. - Ability to plan and implement quality activities for youth. - Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment. - Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. - Interpersonal skill development and maintenance. - Valid State Driver License or California ID card. - Must clear TB, Drug Screen and Fingerprint check. - CPR & First Aid Certifications within 90 of hire. **PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:** Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.
