SUMMARY: The Winter Season JV/B Dance Coach is responsible for leading and developing the Hopkins High School Junior Varsity and/or B-Squad Dance Team during the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) winter dance season. The coach will provide instruction in jazz, kick, and performance dance while fostering teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, leadership, and personal growth in a positive and inclusive environment. The JV/B Dance Coach works collaboratively with the Head Dance Coach and athletic department to ensure program alignment, athlete development, and a positive experience for all student-athletes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Plan, organize, and conduct safe, engaging, and effective practices. Teach and develop fundamental dance techniques, including jazz, kick, flexibility, strength, conditioning, choreography, and performance skills. Prepare athletes for competitions, performances, and school/community events. Promote teamwork, leadership, accountability, and respect among student-athletes. Assist with choreography, routine refinement, and competition preparation under the direction of the Head Coach. Evaluate athlete progress and provide constructive feedback to support individual growth. Ensure compliance with all Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL), Hopkins Public Schools, and athletic department policies. Supervise student-athletes before, during, and after practices, competitions, travel, and team events. Maintain a safe practice environment by enforcing appropriate safety standards and injury prevention practices. Communicate effectively and professionally with athletes, parents, school staff, officials, and administrators. Assist with team logistics, including equipment, uniforms, music, competition preparation, and travel as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications Previous dance coaching, competitive dance, or collegiate/high school dance experience. Knowledge of jazz, kick, and competitive dance techniques. Ability to teach and demonstrate proper dance fundamentals and performance skills. Strong communication, organizational, and leadership abilities. Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes and families. Commitment to creating an inclusive, respectful, and supportive team culture. Successful completion of all district hiring requirements and background checks. Completion of required MSHSL coaching certifications and training.
