Responsibilities include supporting operational efficiency and infrastructure upkeep across these systems to ensure reliable public service. This position focuses on field operations under established supervision. Works under the general supervision of an assigned Water Systems Supervisor or Water Systems Lead Worker. | **RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS** | | --- | Maintenance: This position carries out installation and repair of water lines, water service connections, meters, fire hydrants, and water mains, including thawing frozen lines and repairing or replacing faulty components. The operator maintains storage tanks and performs connection and disconnection of services while locating shut-off valves and water leaks. They assist in placement, removal, and adjustment of pipe regulators and pilot valves. Repairs and reconstruction of curbs, gutters, and streets are conducted to access and fix broken lines. The operator builds and modifies meter boxes as needed and maintains tools and equipment to ensure operational readiness. They correct structural defects and eliminate infiltration and stoppages across drainage, wastewater, and storm drain systems. Daily maintenance and repair of specialized equipment include operation of jet trucks, power rodders, root cutters, jackhammers, compactors, rodding machines, and metal detectors to locate concealed manholes and raise them for street overlays. The operator participates in minor storm drain and wastewater collection system installation, tapping mains for service connections, and maintains electrical components on television inspection trucks. They assist with thawing frozen pipes, meter reading coordination, pump station management, and perform onsite troubleshooting as referrals require. Performs related duties as required.
