The Qualified Member of the Engine Department (QMED) supports the Chief Engineer and Engineering Officer in the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of vessel machinery, equipment, and associated systems. This role performs routine maintenance, assists with repairs, monitors equipment condition, and helps maintain engineering spaces to support operational readiness, regulatory compliance, and protection of the marine environment. **Purpose** The Qualified Member of the Engine Department (QMED) supports the Chief Engineer and Engineering Officer in the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of vessel machinery, equipment, and associated systems. This role performs routine maintenance, assists with repairs, monitors equipment condition, and helps maintain engineering spaces to support operational readiness, regulatory compliance, and protection of the marine environment. ### Responsibilities **Functions** ESSENTIAL - Supports the Chief Engineer and Engineering Officer in operating the vessel in compliance with applicable regulations, company requirements, and safety management system procedures. - Complies with the Company Code of Conduct and all supporting policies, standards, and procedures. - Assists with preventive and corrective maintenance on vessel machinery, systems, and equipment to maintain operational readiness and reliability. - Performs lubrication, cleaning, preservation, and routine servicing of engines, pumps, motors, compressors, generators, and auxiliary equipment. - Starts, stops, monitors, and assists with the operation of auxiliary machinery and engineering systems as directed. - Assists with line-ups of valves, pumps, and piping systems to support vessel operations and maintenance activities. - Reads and records machinery operating parameters including pressures, temperatures, tank levels, and equipment status in engineering logs and records. - Identifies and reports equipment deficiencies, abnormal operating conditions, hazards, near misses, and incidents to engineering officers. - Performs housekeeping duties to maintain engine room and machinery spaces in a clean, orderly, and oil-free condition. - Assists with bunkering, fuel transfers, lube oil transfers, and inventory control activities as directed. - Supports inspections, audits, drills, and emergency preparedness activities in accordance with vessel and company requirements. - Participates in shift turnover and communicates equipment status, completed work, and outstanding issues to relief personnel. - Performs vessel maintenance and repair activities as required **Supervisory Responsibilities** - Promotes a strong safety culture by identifying hazards, following safe work practices, and participating in risk assessments. - Provides assistance and support to fellow crewmembers to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently. ### Qualifications **Qualifications** REQUIRED - Two (2) years minimum related marine engineering or engine room experience. - Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with QMED endorsement. - STCW certification including RFPEW or equivalent engineering watchstanding qualification. - Knowledge of vessel Safety Management System (SMS) procedures. - SafeGulf training. - Valid TWIC card. - Valid Passport. PREFERRED - High School Diploma or GED. - Vocational or technical training in marine, mechanical, or electrical systems. - Vessel experience within the offshore oil and gas industry. **Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics** - Knowledge of mechanical systems, engines, pumps, and auxiliary machinery. - Ability to support the troubleshooting of equipment issues and support corrective actions. - Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. - Ability to work effectively within a team environment. - Treats others fairly and with respect. - Knowledge of company policies, procedures, and operational requirements. - Seeks out learning opportunities and takes initiative to complete assigned tasks…
