Depending upon the candidates' qualifications, the vacancy will be filled at either the Utilities Maintenance Worker Trainee or Level I or Level II. The successful candidate will work at the City’s Municipal Service Center in the Newbury Park area of Thousand Oaks. **Primary responsibilities:** - Perform a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair duties as it relates to the water and wastewater collection systems - Perform light and heavy manual labor - Inspect and perform maintenance on various pump and lift stations - Operate a variety of maintenance and construction equipment **Ideal Candidate** **The ideal candidate should possess:** - Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade - Experience in utility or public works-related maintenance and construction work - The ability to lift, carry, and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more - Pride in their personal work product; demonstrate initiative, and be safety conscious - Proficient computer skills - Outstanding interpersonal skills, including excellent customer service skills - Attention to detail and accuracy with recordkeeping - A team player approach and motivation; affinity for new challenges - A valid Class C California driver’s license **Requirements**: - **Trainee Level**: Ability to obtain and maintain certification through the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) as a Water Distribution Operator Grade D1 within 18 months of employment. Ability to obtain a valid Class B California driver’s license with tanker endorsement within six months of employment. - **Level I** ***:*** Possession of, and ability to maintain, certification through the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) as a Water Distribution Operator Grade D1. Ability to obtain a valid Class B California driver’s license with tanker endorsement within six months of employment. - **Level II** ***:*** Possession of, and ability to maintain, certification through the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) as a Water Distribution Operator Grade D1. State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) as a Water Distribution Operator Grade D2 is preferred. A valid Class B California driver’s license with tanker endorsement. Perform after-hours emergency work on an “as needed” basis and on-call duties on a rotating basis. Must be able to respond to on-call responsibilities at the Municipal Service Center within 30 minutes. **Work Schedule**: Monday – Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. **Special Requirements** **:** 1. **Classification is part of the US Department of Transportation (DOT) program and is regulated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMSCA).
