Position Summary Under the direction of the Transfer Station Manager, the Transfer Station Supervisor is responsible for all matters of the assigned Transfer Station; including but not limited to the safe and timely transport of waste materials to the 121 Regional Disposal Facility, maintenance, administration, and operation. Job Responsibilities Observe safety guidelines as required and prescribed by the NTMWD. This includes identifying and mitigating safety hazards as well as assisting in the implementation of safety programs. Responsible for operating and maintaining the facilities in strict compliance with the solid waste permit requirements. Maintain effective communications with customers and NTMWD management. Supervise and assists on-site personnel. Responsible for approving payroll for employees and preparing annual employee performance reviews. Works collaboratively with the Transfer Station Manager, other Transfer Station Supervisors and Landfill Manager to effectively and efficiently manage the transportation of solid waste. Manages daily onsite facility maintenance, including good housekeeping, landscaping, and odor controls. Ensures permit compliance including random load inspections, facility inspections, litter patrols, and record documentation. Trains, leads, and mentors staff; provides leadership by example and is a positive role model for NTMWD employees. Monitors transport truck payloads and manages employee hours relative to the volume of solid waste received at the transfer station. Coordinates maintenance and repair of transfer trucks and equipment with Fleet Maintenance. Performs daily observation of employees for job performance and proper equipment maintenance to ensure documenting pre-trip inspections and ensure employees perform general housekeeping on assigned vehicle/equipment. Prepares the work schedules of transfer station employees. Creates service requests for needed repairs and renewal; coordinates with operations and Fleet Maintenance personnel; plans, performs, and implements maintenance procedures. Complies with applicable NTMWD policies and procedures. Occasionally operates front-end loader and other equipment at the transfer stations. Perform other duties as assigned, such as operate the scale, remove litter, or direct traffic. Job Requirements Education & Experience: Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. Five years of progressive experience in Transfer Station Operations including operating heavy equipment and/or class A driving experience. Must possess MSW Class “B” Operator License or ability to obtain within six months of starting position. Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Must possess knowledge of all Transfer Station activities. Administrative ability to plan, organize and supervise the work force and its various programs is essential. Must possess the ability to use e-mail, internet, and Microsoft Office applications. Good public relations skills needed. Basic mechanical skills. Environmental and Physical Working Conditions Driving a District vehicle for business will be required. Employees required to drive as part of their job duties are responsible for maintaining a current, valid, and vehicle - appropriate driver' s license of their resident state. The duties and responsibilities are generally performed in a transfer station environment. The position involves frequent standing, frequent walking, light to heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.), light carrying, frequent bending and reaching, and telephone operation. It often requires an irregular work schedule and overtime hours. Specific physical conditions require frequent work with tools, machinery, moving mechanical parts, etc. The duties and responsibilities are performed mostly in a non-climate-controlled environment. Moderate to heavy exposure to dirt, dust, odors, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, moving mechanical parts, vibrations.
