TRAFFIC SIGNAL MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I

Pay Schedule II, Grade H 19, Regular Schedule: 40 hours per week. A vacancy exists in the Department of Public Works, Bureau of Transportation. A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below. Under close supervision, participates in the field and bench repair, maintenance, modification, and installation of traffic signal control devices and associated equipment. 1. Participates and assists in the field and bench repair and installation of electronic traffic control devices such as signals, vehicle detectors, and signal controllers. 2. Participates in the modification of traffic signal control systems. 3. Sets and adjusts signal timings and controller programs. 4. Assists in trouble shooting, pre-wiring, testing, and installing traffic signal control cabinets and related equipment. 5. Performs general maintenance and inspection of traffic signals and related equipment. 6. Replaces hoods, lenses, and bulbs. 7. Participates in the monitoring and analysis of data generated by traffic signal control computer systems and local intersection controllers. 8. Answers maintenance and repair calls during regular working hours and on an emergency basis. **Examples of Other Duties** 1. Maintains the repair shop. Performs other related duties as required. Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent **plus** two years' experience in electronics repair or the repair and maintenance of electronic traffic signal systems. (Additional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education. Additional education in electronics may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.) (Possession of a Traffic Signal Level I certification issued by the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Possession of a Traffic Signal Level II certification issued by the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) may be substituted for two years of the required experience.) **Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Entry Level)** Knowledge of the principles and practices of electronics repair or traffic signal equipment repair. Knowledge of solid-state electronics. Knowledge of safety standards and procedures. Skill in the operation and care of electronic or traffic signal repair tools. Ability to repair traffic signal control systems, microprocessors, solid state devices, and related equipment. Ability to program traffic signal control systems and devices. Ability to operate electronic diagnostic equipment and test equipment. Ability to perform interconnect cabling and wiring. Ability to use personal computers and traffic signal control related software. Ability to recognize and differentiate colors. Ability to read and interpret blue prints and schematic diagrams.
