JOB DESCRIPTION for Tool and Die Maker JOB TITLE DEPARTMENT Tool and Die Maker IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR JOB CLASS Tool Room Supervisor, Non-exempt JOB SUMMARY Tool and die maker responsible for fashioning precision tools and dies that will be used to form, shape, or cut materials. Responsibilities include: - Study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies. - File, grind, shim, and adjust different parts to properly fit them together. - Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications; make adjustments as necessary. - Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects. - Use jigs, fixtures, and templates as work aids in the fabrication of parts or products. - Complete daily department reports - Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools. - Troubleshooting dies in the press and on the bench to make parts to point and run at rate. - Assist with tool and die apprentice training - Additional items as assigned by manager PRINCIPAL CONTACTS INSIDE/OUTSIDE THE COMPANY This position interacts with other trades in and outside their area including Press Operators, Quality Control, Project Managers, and Engineering.
