Experience Teaching in Math and Science preferred. Prefered to have background with Adult Education and the MAERS program. Up to 400 hours for the year. Pay Hourly: TBD. The Adult Education Teacher is a dynamic educator who develops supportive relationships with adult learners in the Adult Education program. They focus entirely on student success and instructional support, providing direct and online instruction, defining clear learning outcomes, and implementing trauma-informed strategies to ensure high-quality learning for non-traditional students. Additionally, they serve as a dedicated mentor for online learners to ensure state compliance with virtual learning communication standards. They communicate regularly and supportively with parents/guardians, adult students, peers, administrators, and other district personnel. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS The Teacher reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Must have regular, reliable, and punctual attendance. Teach District-approved curriculum through both direct, in-person classes and online learning platforms, pivoting seamlessly between the developmental needs of adolescents and the career-driven needs of adults. Serve as the official Mentor for students enrolled in online or virtual courses, conducting and documenting weekly interactions to strictly meet the two-way communication requirements of Michigan Pupil Accounting Manual Section 5-O-D. Actively facilitate learning by fostering a highly welcoming environment, conducting regular student check-ins upon arrival, and proactively assisting students who may be hesitant to ask for help with course material or online instructions. Demonstrate understanding of the diverse family and cultural backgrounds, prior knowledge, and interests of their students; implement trauma-informed practices to support non-traditional learners. Articulate to students their learning objectives and the reasons for their importance. Provide developmentally appropriate individualized, small group, and whole class instruction focusing on skill-building/graduation requirements for adult learners. Support the day-to-day workflow of the Adult Ed program by tracking daily student progress, logging accurate sign-in/out data for state reporting, and promptly sharing student achievements, grades, or absences with the Lead Teacher and Administrative Assistant. Manage student behavior and classroom climate to support students' focus on learning, utilizing de-escalation techniques when necessary. Develop social norms by which students interact with one another and with the teacher, supporting students' learning of roles, responsibilities, and citizenship. Assess student learning through a variety of evaluation methods such as discussions, projects, online modules (e.g., Edmentum), and standardized testing (e.g., TABE). Provide timely, accurate, constructive, and specific feedback to students regarding their learning.
