[Lochner – learn more about us](https://www.hwlochner.com/about/) This position combines field and office responsibilities and requires a strong understanding of utility locating technologies, utility coordination practices, and applicable ASCE standards. The ideal candidate will possess experience in electromagnetic utility locating, utility records research, GPS data collection, and utility mapping. Primary Responsibilities Field Operations - Perform utility designation in accordance with ASCE 38 standards. - Locate and mark underground utilities using electromagnetic locating equipment. - Conduct utility investigations for public and private utility systems. - Perform field reconnaissance and utility inventory collection. - Perform measure-downs (dips) of accessible storm and sanitary manholes and inlets. - Read and interpret utility records, maps, plans, and as-built drawings. - Collect utility survey data using GPS, total stations, and other geospatial equipment. - Document utility conflicts and underground infrastructure conditions. - Support utility test hole (vacuum excavation) operations and verify utility locations. - Maintain accurate daily field notes and project documentation. - Ensure compliance with project safety requirements and company policies. - Provide hands-on field training and mentorship to junior crew members on subsurface utility data collection Office Support - Process and organize field-collected utility data. - Assist with utility mapping and utility database development. - Prepare utility designation sketches and deliverables. - Review utility records and coordinate with utility owners. - Support project managers and SUE professionals in project execution. - Assist with quality control reviews of SUE deliverables. Project Support - Coordinate with engineers, surveyors, utility owners, contractors, and public agencies. - Support project schedules, budgets, and client expectations. - Participate in project planning meetings and utility coordination efforts. - Mentor junior technicians as experience level warrants (Technician III). Required Qualifications SUE Technician III - High school diploma or equivalent required. - Associate or bachelor's degree preferred. - 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in SUE, utility locating, surveying, or utility engineering support. - Demonstrated experience leading field investigations and utility designation projects. - Experience operating electromagnetic utility locating equipment. - Ability to read engineering plans, utility records, and construction drawings. - Strong written and verbal c…
