Substitute Office Support/Clerical Substitutes only: Applicants are not required to hold a high school diploma or equivalent. All substitute applicants must have two professional references returned online (one of which must be from a current or recent supervisor and the other a colleague/friend) along with the completed application in order for the application to be eligible for review by Human Resources. NOTE: Substitute applications are screened periodically. You should expect to hear from Human Resources within 3 weeks of submitting your complete application. Position Information: Hours Per Day Varies - up 8 hours per day Days Per Week M - F Pay Rate $ 30.60 (subject to change based on current bargaining) BenefitsAfter working 630 hours in a school year, substitutes are eligible for benefits through the Washington State School Employee Benefits Board (SEBB) for the remainder of the year. Non-Discrimination Policy JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Substitute Paraeducator REPORTS TO: Building Principal or other identified administrator UNIT CLASSIFICATION: Renton Education Support Professionals (RESP) PRIMARY PURPOSE: Substitute Paraeducator assignments vary, dependent on the specific position being filled and the substitute's availability. The Substitute Paraeducator will have an opportunity to select from positions online each day. The primary purpose of this position is to support learning for identified students under the direction of a certificated staff member. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Depending on the position, the substitute paraeducator may: Supervise and monitor student behavior during recess and in the lunch room. Assist in clerical tasks as requested by the classroom teacher. Assist classroom teachers as needed. Maintain library circulation during lunch hours and assist librarians as required. Work one-on-one or in small group situations, with instructions from classroom teacher. Assist classroom teachers with students under the direction of the self-contained special education teacher. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience 1. High school diploma or equivalent or successful pass of ETS Parapro Assessment Test. This document must be provided to Renton School District prior to starting employment in this position. No experience or training required. Effective oral and written communication skills. Must be able to demonstrate flexibility working with staff members in a variety of locations. Prefer candidates who are willing to work with students with special needs. Demonstrated evidence of promptness and reliability. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound, independent judgment, including appropriate handling of confidential matters. Ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, and the general public. Culturally competent; ability to effectively work with diverse populations.
