**JOB SUMMARY** The purpose of this classification is to supervise Street Division operations and activities involving maintenance of City streets and right-of-way areas. **ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS** - Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals; conducts interviews and makes hiring recommendations; supervises activities of inmate workers or community service workers assigned to work detail. - Coordinates daily work activities of employees, inmate workers, community service workers, or other workers; organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; provides training to workers; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; confers with assigned staff, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise; coordinates an action plan for imminent weather conditions. - Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures and initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations; ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; ensures proper traffic control at work sites by setting up safe work zones at work sites, placing traffic cones/signs, and flagging traffic as needed; reports any incidents, accidents, problems, or unusual situations. - Consults with officials to review division operations/activities, review/resolve problems, receive advice/direction, and provide recommendations. - Plans, coordinates, and supervises street/right-of-way maintenance projects and work activities; calculates materials needed to complete each project; coordinates necessary equipment, manpower, and materials to conduct work activities; calculates cost of projects; schedules projects and plans work activities to minimize down time of roadways; monitors status of projects to ensure timely completion and adherence with quality standards; responds to problems or emergency situations. - Oversees operations of the City’s recycling center. - Supervises and performs various tasks involving street maintenance or right-of-way maintenance projects; lays bricks and concrete block; builds concrete forms for sidewalks, curbing, and stormwater basins; pours and finishes concrete; sweeps street surfaces; prepares road surfaces for asphalt application; lays, rolls, and smooths asphalt; patches/repairs potholes in road surfaces; constructs asphalt driveway tie-ins; installs stormwater drain pipes; clears stormwater ditches; installs guardrails; performs minor land surveys of grading. - Supervises and performs various tasks involving roadside maintenance or grounds maintenance projects; mows grass; cuts down trees and branches; picks up and disposes of tree limbs, brush, debris, and other materials from right-of-way areas; moves dirt and grades land; spreads and compacts gravel; rakes leaves and other ground materials; applies grass and fertilizer; cleans out ditches; digs holes/trenches and shovels materials. - Transports, hauls, loads, and unloads various equipment and materials used in projects. - Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with department projects, which may include a utility truck, garbage truck, trash truck, dump truck, street sweeper, flatbed truck, flusher truck, loader, backhoe, motor grader, boom truck, roller, tractor, mower, bush hog, weed eater, concrete mixer, asphalt loop, chain saw, concrete saw, drill press, air compressor, pump, pick axe, sledgehammer, pitchfork, rake, post hole digger, shovel, broom, hand tools, or two-way radio. - Supervises and performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking/replacing fluids, refueling vehicles, performing minor equipment repairs, gr…
