This position supports citywide Green Space initiatives by advancing policies, programs, and partnerships that protect natural resources and expand access to parks, open spaces, trails, and natural areas. Working across departments and with community partners, the role guides strategies that integrate conservation, recreation, resilience, and sustainable growth into City planning and operations to enhance quality of life for current and future residents. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Planning, Urban Planning or Design, Geographic Information Systems, Architecture, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Historic Preservation, Archaeology or Architectural History, Real Estate Development or related field Five (5) years’ experience in planning, urban design or related field Valid Texas driver's license Preferred Qualifications: Municipal Government experience Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Seven years’ experience in planning or program management Natural Resource/environmental planning experience Stakeholder engagement and public speaking The Senior Planner job responsibilities include: Coordination of the City’s Open Space Conservation Program, including natural area acquisitions, budget management, developing and implementing program goals and priorities Support development of long‑range strategies, policies, ordinances, design standards, and best practices that advance conservation, natural resources stewardship, resilient community development and citywide Green Space initiatives Coordinate cross‑departmental initiatives and manage consultant contracts, including project schedules, budgets, and implementation Prepare technical reports, policy recommendations, presentations, and communications for City leadership, elected officials, and the public; evaluate program performance using measurable outcomes Build partnerships with public agencies, nonprofits, educational institutions, and community stakeholders; represent the City in regional and professional organizations Lead public engagement and outreach to educate residents, encourage participation, and promote conservation and stewardship initiatives Perform occasional field work and attend evening or weekend public/stakeholder meetings as required Working Conditions and Physical Demand Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and intense noises. Light Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects.
