About the role The Facilities Technician is a hands-on role responsible for the day-to day maintenance, safe operation, and compliance of the company’s German facilities. Alongside core facilities duties, this person will act as the local point of contact for Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) matters, supporting the Sr. Facilities, EHS Manager. The role operates under the direction of local management and in technical coordination with the external occupational safety specialist, helping to ensure that site facilities and EHS activities are delivered effectively and in line with legal and company requirements. This role is key to ensuring sites in Germany operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with German and EU legislation, as well as the company’s ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards. Responsibilities Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance tasks across German premises, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and general building systems. Perform regular site inspections and walkthroughs to identify defects, hazards, or maintenance requirements; log findings and take corrective action promptly. Manage relationships with local contractors, tradespeople, and service providers; supervise on-site contractor activities in accordance with the permit-to-work system. Coordinate and oversee the servicing and statutory inspection of building plant and equipment (e.g. HVAC, fire systems, electrical installations, lifts) in compliance with DGUV and BetrSichV requirements. Manage the receipt, storage, and distribution of facilities consumables, spare parts, and maintenance materials. Support space planning, internal moves, and minor refurbishment projects; assist in coordinating fit-out works as required. Monitor and report on utilities (electricity, gas, water) and raise alerts for abnormal consumption. Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, contractor visits, and statutory inspections using the facilities management system. Ensure all communal areas, welfare facilities, and operational spaces are clean, well-maintained, and presentable at all times. Qualifications Completed vocational training (Berufsausbildung) in a relevant trade or technical discipline (e.g. electrical engineering, HVAC, building services, mechatronics) – Gesellenbrief or equivalent. Valid first aid certificate (Ersthelfer) or willingness to obtain upon appointment. Certificate of competence or training in relevant DGUV regulations applicable to the role (e.g. DGUV Vorschrift 3 for electrical safety). Full German driving licence (Klasse B). Required Skills Minimum 3 years’ experience in a facilities maintenance, building services, or technical services role, ideally within a commercial or industrial environment. Practical experience of carrying out and documenting risk assessments and workplace inspections in compliance with German H&S law. Experience managing contractors on site, including issuing permits to work and supervising third-party maintenance activities. Demonstrable knowledge of German workplace safety regulations and DGUV standards. Preferred Skills Strong practical and technical problem-solving skills; able to diagnose faults and implement effective solutions.
