Shall demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and faculty. Physical Qualifications: Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights Job Goal: To provide Speech & Language therapy assessments and services that are necessary for the student to benefit from his/her special education program. General Job Responsibilities: Obtains parent and Admissions and Release Committee permission to evaluate and provide therapy. Maintains communication with parents, teachers, and other staff as appropriate. Provides assessment and programming consultation upon request to school personnel regarding specific students and their communication needs, including augmentative and alternative communication systems. Coordinated continued development and implementation of a communication disorders plan for each student. Develops and maintains resources and staff development programs for speech-language pathologists Develops treatment plans to implement the educational goals. Provides activity suggestions for the classroom and the home, when appropriate. Maintains communication with the parents and school staff to implement IEP goals. Develops, implements, and monitors innovative programs for speech-language service delivery. Coordinates ordering, disseminating, and maintaining appropriate assessment and therapy materials and equipment. Consults with effective delivery of speech-language services for students enrolled in the communication disorders program. Professional Responsibilities: The therapist follows school, district, state and federal guidelines and policies. The therapist keeps attendance records and all other records pertinent to the special education programs required by state and local regulations, and policies and procedures The therapist attends staff meetings. The therapist reports to work regularly and on time. The therapist keeps up to date on current educational trends The therapist selects appropriate channels for resolving concerns/problems. The therapist cooperates with resource personnel, other staff members and parents. The therapist teacher attends to assigned duties and responsibilities in a prompt manner. The therapist initiates parent/teacher conferences, meetings and written communications. The therapist attends and promotes school related activities as required. (includes staff development activities). The therapist keeps information confidential about students and peers. Maintain current knowledge of related technological advances and other matters. Interpersonal Relationships: The therapist is cooperative. The therapist demonstrates self-control. The therapist gives and receives constructive criticism. The therapist deals only with those involved in issues of controversy and disagreement The therapist is flexible and reasonable.
