**Pay range: $18.00 - $26.00 per hour DOE** **POSITION SUMMARY** Under the supervision of the Fitness and Programs Manager position is responsible for the safety and well-being of class participants. In this position, you will teach a class in your area of expertise. Specialty classes include but are not limited to: various types of art, music, cooking, dance performing arts, literature, writing, photography, **ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** - Teach class content appropriate to the course description, level, and within certification guidelines. - Monitor participants for safety associated with group fitness instructor duties. - Complete class reports and records assigned by the Recreation Coordinator. - Follow safety directives established by the City, County, State, Federal and Recreation Coordinator. - Display knowledge and have ability to perform the Emergency Action Plan. - Develop & implement class plans effectively. - Communicate effectively with Recreation Coordinator regarding equipment safety, substitutions/cancellations, and customer feedback as necessary. - Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, staff, & community patrons. - Maintain continuing education necessary to ensure knowledge of trends as well as maintain necessary certifications in order to provide best practices. - Performs all duties of the Group Fitness Instructor as required and scheduled. - Responsible for set up of all equipment; if help is needed moving equipment ask Recreation Coordinator or Guest Services staff. - Must wear proper instructor attire, athletic apparel, footwear, or instructor shirt if applicable. **OTHER DUTIES** - Obey and comply with all City ordinances and policies - Provide first aid and emergency CPR if needed - Work collaboratively with other staff members and management - Work additional hours & attend meetings as requested by management - Maintain class equipment and supplies in proper working order, in an orderly, clean manner - Report to classes properly dressed and ready to assume responsibilities a minimum of 10 minutes early - Maintain accurate daily attendance records for your classes and yourself - Fill out attendance reports as assigned by Recreation Coordinator. - Possess ability to monitor safety and effectiveness of exercises for up to 32 class participants at one time. - Provide necessary modifications and advancements of prescribed exercise methods to meet the needs of specific class population. - Perform other duties deemed necessary and assigned **KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES** - Interact with the public in a professional manner and communicate clearly and concisely with others, both orally and in writing - Ability to follow safe operational policies and procedures, enforce department policies and procedures, and interpret written instructions and manuals - Establish successful working relationships with co-workers, volunteers and the public, and use good professional judgment, honesty, and integrity in decision making - Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations to ensure safety of participants - Willingness to learn and help implement fitness concepts in new classes - Skilled in verbal communication with both children, adults, and senior citizens - Ability to pass a pre-employment physical skills evaluation as stipulated by the department - CPR and emergency medical procedures - Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures **EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE** - Required: - Must be at least 18 years of age - Experience in your area of expertise. Can be a combination of certification, college degree, professional experience, or personal experience. **LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS** - First Aid / CPR ( Will provide training if not certified). - **WORK ENVIRONMENT** - Majority of work is in a busy community center setting with moderate to loud noise and frequent interruptions - Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions - Occasionally exposed to paint an…
