**Registration Specialist****Location:** Epler Parke – Onsite**Hours:** 6:30 AM – 6:00 PM**Schedule:** 8-hour shifts with rotating opening and closing days**Position Overview**The Registration Specialist plays a critical role in facilitating smooth patient flow from point of entry through completion of their appointment. This role ensures accurate registration, scheduling, financial documentation, and patient communication in a timely and professional manner, supporting both patient experience and optimal reimbursement outcomes.**Key Responsibilities** - Facilitate patient flow from arrival through departure in a timely and professional manner - Check patients in and out efficiently and accurately - Schedule patient appointments following established guidelines - Obtain and verify demographic, insurance, and financial information - Complete pre-registration and preparation tasks - Explain charges, policies, and procedures to patients - Appropriately direct patients and visitors - Effectively manage pool messages - Communicate clearly and professionally with patients and team members **Performance Benchmarks****Within 3-6 Months** - Accurately and efficiently check patients in and out - Schedule appointments correctly following guidelines - Complete pre-registration and preparation tasks independently - Process paperwork accurately - Communicate effectively with patients and team members - Manage pool messages efficiently **Within 12 Months:** - Consistently adhere to the established “10 Elements” performance standards: "A Remarkable Patient Experience" **Interactions** - Primarily interacts with patients - Limited interaction with SPAC team members via phone - Minimal collaboration with other departments - Will interact with other team members in the office **Skills for Success** - Strong attention to detail with the ability to complete tasks correctly the first time - Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines - Customer-focused mindset with strong communication skills - Comfortable learning new systems and workflows **Helpful Systems & Tools Experience** - Cerner - WPS / CSnap - Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) **Onboarding & Training** - Approximately 3-week onboarding period - Initial IUH training followed by hands-on shadowing with the team - Gradual transition into patient check-in responsibilities with guided support - Ongoing “at-the-elbow” support from the team lead throughout onboarding **Culture** - Friendly - Collaborative - Flexible - Supportive team environment **Qualifications****Required:** - High School Diploma or GED - Basic proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). **Preferred:** - Previous experience in a healthcare setting - Ability to learn and retain medical coding concepts (ICD-10, CPT) - Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical practices - Experience interpreting insurance information ### About the Team Indiana University Health is Indiana’s most comprehensive health system, with 15 hospitals and nearly 40,000 team members serving Hoosiers across the state.
