Special Education Teacher JobID: 1499 Position Type: Teaching/Special Education Date Posted: 7/9/2026 Location: Watertown-Mayer Elementary School Additional Information: Show/Hide Job Title: Special Education Teacher (Dual Position) Location: Watertown-Mayer Public School District, Watertown, MN Job Summary: Watertown-Mayer Public Schools is seeking a passionate, student-centered Special Education Teacher to join our collaborative team. This unique position offers the opportunity to work with both kindergarten and first-grade students, providing specialized instruction that builds strong academic and social-emotional foundations during the first half of the day, while spending the second half supporting students in our Middle/High School Developmental Cognitive Disabilities (DCD) program as they develop academic, functional, communication, and independent living skills. The ideal candidate is committed to fostering student success, collaborating with families and multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring compliance with state and federal special education requirements. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact across grade levels while working in a supportive district dedicated to helping every student thrive. Responsibilities: Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities, with a focus on meeting academic, social, emotional, and behavioral goals. Provide differentiated instruction and accommodations to support the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities in inclusive and resource settings. Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated support for students with disabilities. Assess student progress regularly and adjust instructional strategies and interventions accordingly. Implement evidence-based interventions and behavioral supports to address challenging behaviors and promote positive social interactions. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student progress, including IEP goals, progress reports, and behavior intervention plans. Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, goals, and strategies for support. Participate in professional development activities to stay abreast of best practices in special education and evidence-based interventions for students with disabilities. Adhere to all state and federal regulations governing special education services and maintain compliance with Individualized Education Program (IEP) requirements. Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Coordinator or building administration. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field (Master's degree preferred). Valid teaching license or certification in Special Education. Experience working with students with disabilities. Strong understanding of evidence-based practices in special education and familiarity with behavioral interventions and supports. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and families. Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction and provide accommodations to meet the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities. Salary and Benefits: Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. The salary range can be found on our union-negotiated 2025-2027 contract: $44,807-$83,365. Benefits may include health and dental insurance, life insurance, 403b contributions, long-term disability coverage, and professional development opportunities.
