About the Position This is a 1.0 FTE continuing contract position for a Special Education Life Skills Teacher at Scriber Lake High School that begins with the 2026-27 school year. Preference will be given to candidates that currently have an ELL, ESOL, or Bilingual endorsement. SIOP training and GLAD training offered by the Multilingual Education Department will be required for all new employees unless they can show evidence of having completed SIOP and GLAD training previously. Training will need to be completed within the first two years of employment. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: -Develop and implement a "Functional Academics" program for students with developmental disabilities that is engaging and culturally responsive. -Manage a team of paraprofessionals. -Trained or willing to be trained in evidence based de-escalation and physical management techniques, operationalize safety plans, and emergency drills with staff and students. -Communicate effectively with parents, social services agencies, and building team orally and in writing. -Monitor student behavior and educational progress, document information, and share observations with building team, parents and outside agencies, as appropriate. -Responsible for Individual Education Plan writing, revision, and facilitation of IEP related meetings for case load. -Develop and implement complex behavior and functional communication plans for students with complex neurological differences to decrease aggressive behaviors and increase independent life skills. -Write compliant, data-driven IEPs and transition plans. -Collaborate with general education teachers to promote inclusive practices. Required Qualifications: Washington State Teaching Certificate with a Special Education endorsement, or the ability to obtain one prior to the position start date.
