As a Software Engineer on the Communications team, you will work on real-time communication across 2D and 3D spaces for billions of users while keeping interactions civil, safe, and expressive. Communication is at the core of what makes Roblox a vibrant social platform, the systems you build will define how tens of millions of people connect every day. You will work with teams across Game Engine, Safety, and ML Platform, building backend services at scale, data pipelines, and ML models that strengthen the underlying chat and policy infrastructure. You will build and ship detection systems that identify chat violations and continuously evolve to outpace bad actors circumventing our safety policies. As a core contributor to a broader suite of communication products, you will drive feature development while embedding safety into the foundation of the platform. You will: Engineer and scale the communication infrastructure that supports millions of concurrent users, architecting highly reliable systems that keep chat civil, proactively detect violations using machine learning models and data pipelines, and define how people connect on Roblox. Work with cutting-edge ML—model tuning and prompt engineering—to build safe chat experiences that are novel even by industry standards. Contribute as needed to the full spectrum of communication product development, from core infrastructure and safety systems to user-facing features. Introduce and improve our processes to help us be more effective and efficient. Enforce high quality standards while we iterate on feature development. Collaborate with other engineering and product teams (Game engine, Creator, Trust & Safety to name a few) at the company to push the boundary of what is possible Self-organize and take ownership of projects throughout its full lifecycle. You have: Experience in backend software development 2+ years industry experience building and supporting ML systems in a production environment. Hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar technical field. Experience collaborating with backend engineers on client/server design and architecture for high-scale products, including knowledge of performance principles like caching and modern technologies.
