Participates in the construction, installation, and maintenance of traffic signs and pavement markings in the City by performing the following duties.*The list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Other duties may be assigned. Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.* **Assists the Sign & Markings Supervisor and Senior Sign and Markings Technician**: applies, installs revises and/or maintains pavement markings utilizing paint striping equipment; constructs, installs, and maintains traffic signs, operates equipment as necessary. **Record Keeping**: keeps daily record of sign maintenance tasks; gathers data needed for various traffic engineering studies; operates and maintains traffic counters, radar trailer, and the specific software required for each. *To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.* 1 year of related experience and/or training. A valid Class D Driver's License and a good driving record is required and must be maintained throughout employment. *The complexity, guidelines, supervisory controls, and supervision responsibilities described below are representative of this position.* SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The supervisor makes assignments by defining objectives, priorities, and deadlines; and assists employee with unusual situations that do not have clear precedents. The employee plans and carries out the successive steps and handles problems and deviations in the work assignment in accordance with instructions, policies, previous training, or accepted practices in the occupation. Completed work is usually evaluated for technical soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements. The methods used in arriving at the end results are not usually reviewed in detail. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None. COMPLEXITY: The work consists of duties that involve related steps, processes, or methods; the decision regarding what needs to be done involves various choices requiring the employee to recognize the existence of and differences among a few easily recognizable situations; actions to be taken or responses to be made differ in such things as the source of information, the kind of transactions or entries, or other differences of a factual nature. GUIDELINES: A number of specific guidelines are available; judgment is used in locating and selecting the most appropriate guidelines; minor deviations can be made in specific cases; significant deviations are referred to the supervisor. The employee rarely makes any decisions that affect persons or situations beyond the scope of his/her job.
