This mechanic position demonstrates the ability to perform basic inspections, basic diagnoses, and basic repairs of diesel-powered heavy equipment and/or related equipment or components, following established procedures and guidelines. Works as a member of a team to provide basic mechanical services that satisfies customer needs and achieves departmental goals. Entry-level position – Generally has less than two years of experience and/or demonstrated job relevant knowledge/skills. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job; works under immediate supervision. The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices on a daily basis 1. Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values 2. Participate in ongoing self-development. ### Essential Functions - Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission - Performs basic disassembles and assembles of machine components to manufacturer’s specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling - Assists in the rebuilding, repairing, reconditioning, and maintaining of equipment and components - Demonstrates good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management - Learns how to plan equipment and component repairs - Learns how to complete parts orders and identify parts for return - Maintains all equipment and work areas – keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition - Completes all documents associated with repairs in a timely manner - Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards - Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs - Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., ProTech - Technician Training Paths - Requires regular and punctual employee attendance - Performs other duties as assigned ### Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - General knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance - Knowledge of heavy equipment machines such as dozers, excavators, motor graders, and other dirt moving equipent preferred - Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems - Quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings - Operation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systems - Equipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job - Ability to operate a conventional forklift and an overhead crane - The ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions - Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair - The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects - The ability to read, write, and understand information - The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences - Must have/acquire basic mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard) ### Requirements Education and Experience: - One or more years of diesel-powered heavy equipment repair experience preferred - Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams experience is preferred - High school diploma or equivalent preferred - Graduation from a diesel technology program preferred Supervisory Responsibilities: - None Travel - No travel is expected for this position Physical Requirements - Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back musc…
