## Overview **Sheriff Patrol Deputy (Lateral or Entry)** **$35.87-$45.70 per hour** *Full-Time*, Non-Exempt - Benefit & Pension Eligible **** The Steele County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to protect and serve the citizen’s of Steele County and support their quality of life. We coordinate the efforts of the emergency and support services to provide the highest level of responsiveness possible. We hold ourselves accountable for our actions and take pride in a professional level of service and fairness to all. **** **Applicants with prior law enforcement experience are encouraged to apply and can be given lateral entry pay.** Incentives: - Shift Differential ($1.00 per hour), Uniform Allowance ($1050), Holiday Pay and potential for overtime - PTO accrual of 6.461 hours per pay period to start - Take home squad car within County limits or within 5 miles of Steele County line - 2027 will receive 4% COLA & 2028 will receive 3% COLA & step increases based on union contract - County will contribute to HSA/VEBA $1,700 for single or $3,500 for family (if you take our Medical insurance that is provided by Medica); other benefits also available - Enhanced trainings - Public Student Loan Forgiveness **This position will remain open until filled, we will review applications as they are received.** **EOE** ## Description **Steele County** **Job Description** **Job Title:** Patrol Deputy **Department:** Sheriff **Immediate Supervisor:** Sergeant **FLSA Status:** Non-Exempt **DBM Rating:** C41 **Union:** LELS **Job Summary** Under the direction of the Sergeant, the Patrol Deputy is responsible for enforcing all federal, state and local laws, statutes, and ordinances within the County to serve and protect citizens of the County and to promote public safety. Duties of the Patrol Deputy include such major responsibilities as patrolling assigned portions of the County; enforcing laws and regulations; traffic and DUI enforcement; serving civil process papers; responding to civil or criminal complaints, disturbances or emergency assistance; conducting accident investigations; or other assignments, as delegated. **Essential Duties and Responsibilities** - Patrols Steele County to preserve law and order and to prevent and/or discover the commission of crime. - Enforces all provisions of federal and state laws and local ordinances. - Recognizes problem areas within the County. - Performs community policing and patrols contracted cities (i.e. City of Medford. Ellendale, etc.) to maintain visibility and contracted provisions. - Provides security checks to businesses and residences. Monitors, observes, investigates and takes actions for suspicious persons, nuisances, obstructions, or conditions that may endanger the health and or safety of citizens - Performs traffic enforcement duties and responsibilities. - Enforcement traffic laws, statutes and ordinances. - Monitors and conducts DUI enforcement. - Responds to and investigates crashes and accidents. - Maintains training on DWI updates, case laws and accidents. - Serves civil and county related papers in a prompt and efficient manner. Complete required paperwork, i.e. affidavits of service, etc. Be aware of laws governing such service. Assists in conducting Sheriff’s sales, property retrievals, and enforcement of court orders. - Responds to a wide variety of calls and complaints involving robberies and other felonies, domestic disturbances, automobile accidents, medical emergencies, drowning, animal control, area searches and other incidents related to the performance of duty. Maintains scene safety as well as officer safety at all times. Prepares detailed incident reports involving complaints and law enforcement actions/activities. - Assists fire departments, medical personnel and other law enforcement agencies during emergencies or natural disasters. - Assists in investigations and follow-up with complaints, as delegated. - Prepares, appears and testifies in court. - Performs other duties of a comp…
