About the Senior Product Manager Reagent role

Senior Product Manager Reagent positions focus on delivering results in their domain. This page aggregates open Senior Product Manager Reagent roles and what employers typically expect.

Our mission is to make biology easier to engineer. Ginkgo is constructing, editing, and redesigning the living world in order to answer the globe’s growing challenges in health, energy, food, materials, and more. Our bioengineers make use of an in-house automated foundry for designing and building new organisms. Position Summary As a Product Manager on the Reagents team, you will own one or more product lines end-to-end—from customer discovery and roadmap definition through launch, growth, and ongoing customer success. We are a small, high-ownership team, so this role spans the full commercial surface of the business: product management, marketing, e-commerce and commercial operations, and customer success. You will partner closely with our science, foundry operations, supply chain, and engineering teams to bring new reagent products to market, scale the ones already in customers’ hands, and continuously improve the experience scientists have with Ginkgo Reagents. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to combine strategic product thinking with operational execution. You will be expected to set the direction for your product area, then roll up your sleeves to make it happen—writing PRDs, talking to customers, pricing kits, fixing a stuck order, and shipping a launch campaign all in the same week. Key Responsibilities 1. Product Discovery & Roadmap Customer Discovery: Run customer interviews, voice-of-customer programs, and market research with scientists at academic labs, pharma and biotech R&D teams, and AI-driven discovery companies to deeply understand workflows, unmet needs, and willingness to pay. Roadmap Ownership: Define and own the product roadmap for your area (e.g., cell-free protein synthesis, PichiaWorks, proteins and enzymes); prioritize ruthlessly across new products, formats, and improvements based on customer value, commercial impact, and feasibility. Requirements & Specs: Write clear product requirements (PRDs, user stories, success criteria) and partner with science and operations teams to translate them into manufacturable, automation-friendly products. Market & Competitive Intelligence: Build and maintain a current view of the competitive landscape, pricing, and emerging customer segments; use it to inform roadmap and positioning decisions. 2. Launch & Go-to-Market Launch Ownership: Drive product launches end-to-end—launch plan, readiness checklist, cross-functional coordination, internal enablement, and post-launch tracking. Positioning & Messaging: Develop positioning, value propositions, and messaging tailored to target customer segments, and translate them into customer-facing assets in partnership with marketing. Pricing & Packaging: Set and iterate on pricing, packaging, and bundling decisions based on customer research, competitive benchmarks, and unit economics. 3. Commercial Operations & E-commerce Storefront Ownership: Own the e-commerce experience on the Reagents storefront, including product pages, SKU setup, content quality, and conversion optimization (Shopify/ERP). Order & Fulfillment Operations: Partner with Foundry operations, supply chain, and shipping to ensure orders flow accurately, cold-chain requirements are met, and shipments dispatch on time; troubleshoot bottlenecks as they arise. Inventory & Demand Planning: Monitor stock levels of high-demand kits and reagents, forecast demand, and partner with operations to prevent out-of-stock scenarios and right-size inventory. Metrics & Analytics: Define and track the KPIs for your area, such as revenue, conversion, fulfillment SLAs, NPS, repeat rate, and use them to inform roadmap and operational decisions. 4. Marketing & Customer Success Content & Demand Generation: Own product content end-to-end, including product pages, technical specs, application notes, blog posts, and email and social campaigns—optimized for SEO (search engine optimization) and AEO (answer engine optimization) across Google, ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Goo…
