This is accomplished by installing, removing, calibrating, repairing and testing water meters; programing and troubleshooting remote metering equipment such as radios and electronic handheld units; turning water services on or off; and investigating meter complaints. Other duties include investigating and resolving customer inquiries and issues. - Performs lead work by organizing, prioritizing and distributing service orders; reviewing work for completion and accuracy; providing guidance or direction to subordinates; and responding to questions and inquiries. - Completes fulfilling service orders and meter readings by reviewing tickets; gathering supplies and equipment; reading meters; and working with customers. - Schedules the replacement and testing of commercial meters by coordinating meter change out times; preparing sites for meter change outs; and enlisting contractor services as needed. - Maintains parts and supplies inventories by tracking inventory levels; ordering parts and supplies; scheduling vendor deliveries or traveling to vendor sites for pick up. - Encourages workplace safety by holding safety meetings; coaching on safe work practices; and reporting incidents and violations. - High School diploma or equivalent - Three years of experience installing, removing, repairing and calibrating water meters, and in programing and troubleshooting AMR (automated meter reading) equipment - Knowledge of principles and practices related to water meter installation, calibration, reading, maintenance, repair, and testing - Knowledge of standard safety processes, work gear and procedures - Ability to analyze and organize data, and prepare reports - Skill in the operation and use of standard office software which includes databases and presentation programs, along with standard Microsoft products - Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers, the public, and elected and appointed officials
