Under basic supervision, the Senior Maintenance Worker for Environmental Programs performs skilled environmental field maintenance and cleanup work, including operating heavy vehicles, specialized equipment, and overseeing small work crews. This journey-level classification performs complex technical duties, operates heavy equipment and may act as lead for small crews by assisting with training and documentation. This class is distinguished from the Lead Maintenance Worker by its limited administrative and supervisory responsibilities. *Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:* - Safely operates grapple trucks, trash compactors, trailers, loaders, tractors, and other assigned equipment to collect and transport debris, tires, and refuse from illegal dump sites, encampments, or cleanup projects. - Removes illegally dumped materials, discarded debris, bulky waste, and other environmental materials from public or private areas using proper PPE and safe handling procedures. - Assists with, and may lead, cleanup and restoration efforts for homeless encampments, coordinating debris removal, site clearing, and hazard mitigation. - Performs skilled tire collection and documentation, completing tire manifests, cost-recovery worksheets, daily activity logs, and other compliance-related records. - Boards up and secures abandoned or vacant properties and performs basic welding, carpentry, painting, and access-point stabilization. - Assists in reviewing service requests, prioritizing assignments, and scheduling work for junior staff or support crews. - Provides field leadership to small work teams and ensures adherence to safety procedures and work quality standards. - Estimates material, labor, and equipment needs for board-up, cleanup, and abatement activities. - Coordinates or procures tools, equipment, and supplies required for assigned projects. - Assists with field inspections to determine waste service status or assess dumping complaints. - Supports warehouse operations by staging cleanup supplies, tracking inventory, distributing PPE, and maintaining tool readiness. - Assists in organizing and supporting environmental projects such as City cleanup events, Adopt-a-Street participation, tire take-back programs, and community recycling efforts. - Provides public support at outreach events by answering basic environmental program questions. - Assists in staffing environmental information booths and providing program awareness during community events. - Responds to after-hours environmental hazards, debris-related emergencies, or cleanup operations as required. - Completes documentation related to equipment usage, material volumes, time records, and field activity reporting using computers, tablets, or mobile devices. - Trains and supports entry-level personnel in equipment use, safety procedures, documentation, and environmental standards. - Operates City vehicles and equipment responsibly and performs minor servicing and maintenance on assigned tools and machinery. - Attends safety meetings, compliance training, and required certifications, and may occasionally lead safety meetings. - Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned. **Education and Experience:** High school diploma or GED equivalent and three (3)…
