We are looking for an experienced business development & account management lead to join the Japan GTM team as Senior Business Development Manager. This role reports directly to the Country Manager, Japan and has responsibility to drive sales and activity in the acquisition and maintenance of accounts. Role Overview: In your role as Senior Business Development Manager, you will: Develop sales expansion strategy and drive new business growth in Japan by identifying, engaging, and converting target clients, leading them through the full lifecycle from initial outreach to signed agreements. Engage and influence decision-makers across a wide spectrum—from start-ups to large multinational corporations—advising on FX requirements and payment solutions to establish long-term, high-value relationships. Own the end-to-end business development process, including proactive prospecting, pipeline creation, and progression through contracting, onboarding, and initial transaction execution. Work closely with global pre-sales and product teams to design, tailor, and implement client-specific solutions, ensuring successful onboarding and early-stage adoption. Contribute to the localization and enhancement of sales materials, onboarding guides, product user guides, and processes to meet the unique requirements of the Japanese market. Act as a trusted advisor by combining commercial insight with solution expertise, clearly articulating how Convera’s offerings address client challenges and deliver measurable value. Maintain a strong understanding of the payments and FX landscape, including regulatory and compliance requirements, while staying attuned to broader economic trends to anticipate client needs. Following onboarding, managing client relationships through the early stages of the lifecycle, ensuring a smooth transition, driving customer experience and satisfaction, and identifying opportunities for further growth. Collaborate with the Key Account Management team, actively manage and grow existing client accounts, ensuring continuity, long-term value creation, and alignment with clients’ evolving needs. Build and leverage relationships with partners, advisors, and broader client ecosystems to expand market reach and generate qualified opportunities. You will ideally have: Demonstrated experience working with or selling into financial institutions (banks, non-bank financial institutions), as well as corporates, ideally within the payments, financial services, or fintech industry. Demonstrated success in new business sales within a fast-paced environment, with a consistent track record of achieving or exceeding targets and deadlines. Experience managing client relationships and driving revenue growth from existing accounts. Strong understanding of consultative sales, with the ability to engage at the executive level, navigate complex negotiations, and build long-term client relationships. A self-starter mindset with a proactive and persistent approach to new business acquisition, combined with the ability to work independently while collaborating with internal account managers to ensure continuity in client relationships. Strong financial acumen, with a clear understanding of business drivers and the commercial impact of global economic trends and events. Strong background in B2B and solution-based sales. Excellent communication and presentation skills across multiple formats, as well as proficiency in tools such as MS Office, web conferencing platforms, reporting tools, and CRM systems (e.g. Salesforce). Proven experience working within and selling into multinational organizations. Language skills: Japanese (native level) and English (business level).
