You will work on foundational backend infrastructure powering intelligent assistants, voice agents, custom agents, and automated workflows. The position focuses on solving complex engineering challenges around AI orchestration, evaluation, observability, and scalable production systems. You will collaborate with a highly technical team exploring emerging AI capabilities and bringing experimental ideas into reliable customer-facing products. The role combines backend engineering excellence with curiosity about large language models, automation, and intelligent systems. You will have significant ownership, influence technical direction, and help define how AI agents operate at scale for thousands of users. ### Accountabilities: The Senior Backend Engineer – Agents will design, build, and operate the infrastructure that enables intelligent AI-driven experiences. This role requires strong backend engineering skills, product thinking, and the ability to navigate rapidly evolving technical challenges. - Build and maintain the core platform powering AI agents, including agent execution, orchestration, evaluation, and observability systems. - Develop backend systems that support voice agents, AI-powered assistants, and customizable customer-facing agents. - Create reliable evaluation and monitoring frameworks to measure agent performance, improve quality, and enable confident production releases. - Design and implement systems where deterministic workflows and probabilistic AI capabilities work together effectively. - Build infrastructure for code execution, generated outputs, dynamic tools, API integrations, and automated customer workflows. - Advance generated user experiences by enabling AI systems to create dynamic reports, charts, tables, widgets, and reusable artifacts. - Take AI-powered features from early prototypes through production readiness and general availability. - Develop event-driven agent capabilities that respond intelligently to real-time customer activity and business processes. - Solve complex reliability challenges including agent lifecycle management, recovery strategies, execution controls, and scalable operations. - Evaluate and integrate new AI models, providers, and technologies while balancing performance, cost, and production readiness. - Collaborate across engineering and product teams to identify opportunities, make technical decisions, and deliver impactful solutions. - Contribute to a culture of experimentation, ownership, transparency, and continuous improvement. ## Requirements: The ideal candidate is an experienced backend engineer who combines strong software engineering fundamentals with practical experience building AI-powered products and systems. - Several years of experience building and shipping production software systems at scale. - Strong backend development experience, particularly with Python or similar modern programming languages. - Experience working with AI-powered applications, including agent systems, retrieval workflows, RAG, evaluations, tool design, or context engineering. - Experience using AI tools in daily engineering workflows to improve productivity and problem-solving. - Strong understanding of software architecture, distributed systems, APIs, and production reliability. - Experience owning critical systems, debugging complex production issues, and delivering solutions with meaningful customer impact. - Ability to work effectively with non-deterministic systems and solve problems where traditional engineering patterns may not apply. - Familiarity with large language models, AI research concepts, model capabilities, and emerging AI trends.…
