**Job Title:** Secondary Special Education Paraprofessional **Job-Type:** Full-time ***Contract Days:*** 187-190 Days ***Reports to:** Campus Principal* **Company Website:** [http://www.waysideschools.org](http://www.waysideschools.org/) **Salary:** $29,416. **Job Goal:** This employee is responsible for assisting the classroom teachers in the implementation of program's established criteria. **Qualifications/** **Education/Certification:** - Bachelor’s Degree, Associate’s Degree, or Paraprofessional Certificate from the appropriate agency ​**Skill Requirements:** - Ability to work with individuals and small groups of children. - Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all employees. - Ability to prepare and maintain required program records. - Ability to assist supervising instructional staff in the preparation and/or organization of materials. - Meet all State and Federal requirements for the position, regarding staff qualifications. **Performance Responsibilities:** - Assisting the Teacher in preparing instructional materials to be used in the program. - Assisting in arranging the learning environment, including assembling and putting materials on the bulletin board and arranging center areas. - Working with assigned children under the teacher's direction. - Administering and scoring appropriate screenings and assessments required by the program. - Performing other duties as assigned or required by the program. - Working with individual student or small groups as assigned by the teacher. - Establishing and maintaining high standards of student behavior consistent with district and school policies. - Assisting students with daily activities such as during mealtimes, dressing and toileting. - Attending enrichment classes with students such as art, physical education, Spanish and music as needed. - Attending school-wide assemblies or special programs as needed. - Taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials, equipment, and facilities. - Supervising the students throughout the day. - Completing record keeping tasks assigned by the teacher. - Riding the school bus as needed to monitor and assist with the safe transportation of assigned children. - Performing other duties as assigned - Participating in Program In-service Activities. **Physical Effort and Work Environment:** - Services are generally provided within a standard classroom environment. - Some movement throughout the classroom is generally necessary to facilitate learning (e.g., standing, walking, stooping, bending, sitting, and/or kneeling). - Special Education staff may also be required to pick up students, restrain students as needed, and spend large quantities of time on the floor sitting, squatting, and/or kneeling. - Light lifting of materials and other objects associated with a classroom environment is required (e.g., books, teaching aids, up to approximately 20 – 40 lbs.). - Lifting of students to help with dressing or toileting as needed. - Field trips may be made. - Candidate should be willing to contribute directly or indirectly to the development of children both inside and outside the classroom, which may include working hours in addition to the regular school day. - This position may involve rare exposure to blood or body fluids. - Regular attendance is required for this position. **Benefits:** - Free Health Insurance, including major medical, dental, vision, and life (Employee Only) - Sustainability Fridays - Free Pre-K for Staff Children - Professional Development and Coaching - 403(b) plan - Texas Retirement System Plan - Stipends for candidates who meet special program qualifications **Additional Information:** This job description is not an employment agreement or contract.
