Seasonal Highway Maintenance Assistant

Otter Tail County is accepting applications for a Seasonal Highway Maintenance Assistant. This position will assist the Highway Department with general unskilled labor to assist with summer Highway Department operations and to provide additional staff needed to complete a crew. The Seasonal Highway Maintenance Assistant position is needed August 2026 through September 2026. Applications for this seasonal position will be accepted until 4:30pm on July 27, 2026. The tentative Interview date is July 30, 2026. - General Highway Garage Housekeeping – sweep floors, empty waste receptacles, cleaning lavatories, monthly fire extinguisher and eyewash station inspection, washing/cleaning vehicles and/or equipment. - General Highway Garage Lot Area Maintenance – lawn mowing, lawn trimming, weed control and debris clean-up. - Highway Department Road Maintenance – general laborer, aggregate and bituminous material raker and shoveler, operate leaf blower, cleaning culvert ends with yard and garden hand tools, roadway roadkill and debris cleaning and removal, equipment parts courier with Class D vehicles. - Adheres to safety policies and regulations as well as utilizes Personal Protective Equipment. - Performs other duties as assigned. - Regular attendance is required to perform the duties of this position. - Must demonstrate the ability to work well with others, be courteous and helpful. - Must possess the ability and willingness to follow rules and policies. - Must have the ability and willingness to follow directives from supervisor(s), group leaders, or acting group leaders. - May assist with duties and responsibilities as outlined in the County Emergency Operations Plan and Continuity of Operations Plan. - High school diploma or equivalent - Valid driver’s license This position is regularly scheduled to work Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with potential opportunity for overtime. The anticipated working season will be August through September. The 2026 starting salary for this position is $19.67 per hour.
