School Counselor, Long-Term Sub .5 FTE JobID: 1651 Position Type: High School Teaching Date Posted: 7/8/2026 Location: Dean Lakes Education Center Position Details: Show/Hide The SouthWest Metro Intermediate District #288 has an opening for a part-time High School Counselor LTS (.5 FTE) for the 2026-2027 school year to support our Elevate Online program. SouthWest Metro serves students in 11 member districts and 8 associate member districts across the southwestern Twin Cities metropolitan area with programs in Special Education, Career and Technical Education, Care & Treatment, Adult Education, and Alternative Education. Description: High School Counselor, .5 FTE hours a day for the contracted period. Advise and counsel students regarding academic, educational, and short-term social and emotional problems. Remain universally accessible and make an effort to know every student for whom they are responsible. Provide individual student planning and responsive services to support students and their families regarding academic matters. Teach guidance classes and provide guidance counseling to students through planned activities in small group or classroom settings to convey educational, social, and important school information, and offer workshops/seminars for parents. Consult, facilitate and maintain communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and pertinent agents on specific student and parent academic and educational matters including academic modifications and/or accommodations. Provide feedback and recommend appropriate action and solutions to individual student's academic and educational needs and abilities. Participate on a Student Success Team, identify students who may need targeted or intensive services, and coordinate with behavioral health specialists. Assist students/parents in understanding school policies and procedures. Provide brief counseling to address social and emotional concerns and appropriately refer students to behavioral health specialists. Communicate, coordinate, and collaborate with behavioral health specialists on developing and implementing student supports. Pay & Benefits: The pay range for this position is $56,000-103,000 based on education and experience. Desire and ability to work with students at the High School level with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational goals. Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines and communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive. Working familiarity with student assessment tools, especially in evaluating and interpreting standardized test results. Knowledge of educational software.
