The primary function of the Safety Manager is to provide leadership and moral influence in the construction industry to meet current safety guidelines and enhance objectives such as further reducing injury and property damage. The Safety Manager is to provide support and act as a resource regarding safety efforts in project field activities related to on-site field administration and technical safety requirements. The Safety Manager will be an essential team member to the administration, preconstruction, on-site project team, bidding operations, and WEO management from initial job setup through completion of the project is completed to the satisfaction of all. This position includes training all levels of WEO personnel on the governmental OSHA requirements in the field and training sessions. ### Key Responsibilities The primary duties and responsibilities and of the Safety Manager typically include, but are not limited to: Technical - Build and create strong subcontractor relationships with subcontractors and upper safety management and strive to establish new relationships - Mentoring project personnel regarding safety goals, concerns, and resolutions at other WEO projects - Inform appropriate WEO parties of potential subcontractors and projects that are discovered through discussions with other associates - Encourage project managers, project engineers, and superintendents to use Safety Mojo to assist them in becoming more efficient - Facilitate safety training in areas of construction safety and other subjects as dictated by field and administrative needs to create an acceptable level of safety on WEO job sites - Advance the safety knowledge of WEO personnel and subcontractor - Communicate with owner safety concerns and exposure presented by their subcontractors on WEO job sites - Communicate with owner and subs safety concerns and exposure presented by their subcontractors on WEO job sites - Consult with subcontractors and manufacturers regarding specific equipment, i.e. roof anchors, fall protection gear, crane safety devices, etc. - Assist in pooling resources with OSHA and other governmental agencies regarding incident investigations regulatory concerns and seek advice concerning WEO’s proposed safety practices - Assist in training new field superintendents, project engineers, and project managers regarding the safety procedures presently utilized at WEO - Encourage subcontractors and other general contractors to upgrade their safety processes by WEO involvement in training programs and association - Enforce the WEO safety programs for consistency among all projects - Support Project team members within the designated time frame by contributing to pre-planning and start-up meetings and answering calls for assistance - When requested, attend and advise on contract pre-award meeting and suggest contract terms to discuss EMR over 125% and / or frequent OSHA visits (3 visits per year or repeat citations) to assist in preventing incidents and reducing OSHA visits - Address concerns with project management and superintendent to solicit their assistance in defining resolution prior to the subcontractor’s start of job - Assist project and executive management in safety responsibilities and needs with current and new legal safety regulations and cooperation of subcontractors - When requested, attend and advise on project pre-construction checklist to determine - superintendents’, PMs, and PEs safety concerns and plans of action to provide a safe working environment - Attend subcontractor pre-installation meetings to review project and government safety requirements to define WEO safety expectations - Assist superintendents in determining safety procedures for uncommon conditions and review requested Site Safety Analysis procedures - Assist in developing site- specific safety programs as required by client and Cal OSHA - Define the subcontractor document requirements and verify they are properly being collected and stored proper…
