Safety and Medical Captain

***FLSA non-exempt under Section 7(k) fire protection personnel. 14-day work period / 106 hours before overtime applies; 2,756 annual hours.*** Under limited supervision of the Response Division Chief the Safety and Medical Captain shall respond to emergency incidents in the role of Safety Officer or Medical Supervisor in support of the Incident Management Function. Assist with emergency planning and preparedness. Provide support to the Training Division Chief by implementing basic and advanced training drills, and classes to maintain and raise the knowledge and skill level of Firefighters. Provides support to the EMS Division Chief with the maintenance and readiness of EMS equipment and supplies. Implements EMS training in support of continuing education. - A high school diploma or GED equivalent and five (5) years of recent experience as an active member of a fire department involved in both fire suppression and emergency medical service, including one (1) year as a fire officer, Lieutenant or higher rank. - Associates degree, preferred. - Structure Firefighter II, IFSAC required - Fire Officer I, IFSAC Required - Fire Instructor I, IFSAC Required - New Mexico Advanced EMT required - NWCG S-130 and S-190; L-180; required - Incident Safety Officer, preferred. - Blue Card Incident Command, preferred - Valid State of New Mexico Class E driver’s license or able to obtain within six (6) months of employment. - Work is performed in an office and outdoors in varied weather conditions; requires physical exertion under vigorous and unusual conditions. May be subject to cuts, bruises, scrapes, burns, broken bones, insect and animal bites, germs, bacteria, viruses, environmental allergies, gases and fumes. May be subject to exposure to CRTs and VDTs. May be subject to life threatening situations; involves the potential for exposure to high stress levels. - May be subject to bending, reaching, kneeling, crawling, and lift in excess of 75 pounds. - Subject to completing and passing annual Work Capacity Test (WCT) at the Arduous level for wildland firefighters to meet the Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) standards. - Full-time work hours for this position consist of rotating shifts, nights, weekends, overtime, and responds to emergency calls as requirements for the operations of this department. - Position frequently requires travel. - Work schedule for this position may include working on religious holidays. - Utilize, process, and navigate the County’s electronic ERP system as necessary and appropriate based on the needs and requirements of this position. - Some work duties may be performed “remotely” outside of County facilities. For remote access you must complete and maintain a current remote work agreement.
