The incumbent in this position is responsible for assisting the Manager in the coordination of the day-to-day operations of Urgent Care and providing nursing support services to designated departmental physicians on an as needed basis. May supervise nursing and non-nursing staff depending on the staff mix within an assigned department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, personal management to include clinical personnel selection, orientation/training, scheduling, development/mentoring, assist manager in the feedback process of performance appraisals, coaching and counseling, disciplinary actions, patient/resident care delivery, physician relationships, intradepartmental and interdepartmental activities, quality control and process improvement activities, regulatory compliance and fiscal control. Assists in the development of policies and procedures. Provides leadership for departmental staff consisting of Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Medical Assistants and other staff as designated by the department organizational structure or as determined by the Manager. Essential Job Functions • Provides leadership within the assigned department(s) in the accomplishment of organizational/departmental goals and objectives. • May participate in and provide feedback into the processes of interviewing, hiring, coaching/counseling, performance appraisals, and disciplinary actions. • Assists in the development of standards and protocols for nursing practice and patient care programs. • Responsible for adhering to established human resource management policies and procedures. • Participates in the development of and assists with implementation of an education plan that addresses individual, departmental and/or the medical specialty needs. • Plans appropriate staffing practices by maximizing the utilization of resources; forecasts and anticipates the personnel needs of department(s) with regard to fluctuations in the patient/resident workload and productivity standards; maintains staffing at agreed upon budgetary standards. • Assists Manager/Director with the development, implementation and maintenance of departmental policies, procedures and practices to ensure quality of care and a safe environment for patient/residents/staff. • Provides nursing support services to designated physicians. Participates in the accomplishment of the daily work load. • Responsible for providing direction while overseeing activities associated with the day-to-day operations. Coordinates work flow throughout Urgent Care Department by planning, organizing and delegating work; may perform staff scheduling functions; acts as a resource to staff responding to procedural questions and assistance with problem resolution. Will triage emergent or patient complaint issues and seek the assistance of the Manager as appropriate. • Organizes ongoing communication between all health care providers regarding aspects of patient/resident care and department(s) functions. Acts to resolve conflicts in a timely manner. Develops collaborative relationships with physicians to enhance quality practice and quality outcomes. Provides consultation for patients/residents care related concerns and acts a patient/resident and staff advocate, as needed. • Participates in the training and orientation of new employees and assists in providing on-going educational training for staff. May assist in the preparation for staff meetings and dissemination of updates and other communications. • Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency environmental, employee or patient safety standards relevant to job performance and ensures staff adherence to the same. Monitors and ensures compliance with quality and regulatory requirements applicable to the Occupational Health and Employee Health and ensures staff adherence to the same. • Prevents, minimizes and/or corrects risks to patients/residents, families, physicians, and other health care providers.…
