Retirement Specialist I

Under the supervision of the Retirement System Administrator or designee, learn to calculate retirement benefits for members of Imperial County Employees’ Retirement System (ICERS); may serve as an informational resource concerning retirement benefits, options, procedures and laws; prepare and maintain a variety of financial and statistical records, reports and files related to retirement benefits; process and reconcile billings, payments and individual changes for retirement plan members. This is the entry level classification in the series. Incumbents initially learn to perform duties under close supervision; as experience is gained, incumbents work more independently and on more complex duties. Graduation from high school or General Education Development (GED), or equivalent and three years increasingly responsible clerical accounting and records-keeping experience. One year working with retirement benefits is desirable. A valid driver’s license may be required at the time of appointment and employees may also be required to drive their own vehicle and provide proof of liability insurance as per Vehicle Code VC § 160020. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This position may require pre-employment drug test, physical examination, and fingerprinting for a background investigation.
