In the context of a Cardiff-Waikato collaborative seed fund project, the research assistant will conduct research and provider research assistance to the Co-Investigators in the context of a research paper intended to be published as a journal article and which is due to be presented at a workshop at the University of Waikato (New Zealand), as follows: - Provide detailed advice and editorial guidance in the search and management of primary and secondary sources which will provide the basis for the writing up of a research paper on 'Indigenous peoples and global environmental law and governance'; in doing so, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action; where appropriate, contributing to the resolution of more complex issues; - Gather and analyse data to inform research decisions, establishing basic trends and patterns and creating reports as appropriate, and specifically: - 1. Conduct an online search of the literature and primary sources related to the themes of the research paper and the workshop, using the relevant databases (e.g. Google scholars; Lexis Nexis; Westlaw etc) 2. Compile a list of the literature and other relevant primary and secondary sources and organise them in a Zotero database (training will be provided) 3. Write a literature review addressing the core themes of the research paper - Instruct and provide guidance to the Co-Investigators regarding the preparations for the writing up of the research paper - Ensure that an understanding of the importance of confidentiality is applied when undertaking all duties - Abide by University policies on Health and Safety and Equality and Diversity - Undertake work to facilitate the organisation of the workshop (for example, setting up an Eventbrite page) - Perform other duties occasionally which are not included above, but which will be consistent with the role, in the preparations of the writing up of the research paper and organisation of the workshop ## Qualifications **Essential criteria** Qualifications and Education 1. NVQ 3/A-Levels or equivalent 2. UG or PG degree in Law (or working towards completion of a UG or PG degree in Law) or related disciplines Knowledge, Skills and Experience 1. Substantial experience of working in an administrative or editorial support role 2. Specialist knowledge of any areas of law, preferably in the fields of international or comparative law, environmental law, human rights, energy law or natural resource management 3. Experience in academic writing, as evidenced from publications, conference papers or other draft written work. 4. Knowledge of academic citation standards, for example the Oxford University Standard for the Citation of Legal Authority (OSCOLA, 5^th^ edition) Customer Service, Communication and Team Working 1. Good team working and interpersonal skills 2. Ability to communicate specialist and complex information effectively and professionally Planning, Analysis and Problem solving 1. Evidence of ability to solve problems using initiative and creativity; identify and propose practical solutions and to resolve problems where there are a range of potential options available 2. Good attention to detail 3. Evidence of ability to analyse processes and procedures, and advise on improvements 4. Evidence of ability to work unsupervised to deadlines, planning and setting priorities for own work **Desirable criteria** 1. Degree or an equivalent qualification or equivalent work-related experience 2. Ideally be working towards completion of a UG or PG degree in Law or related disciplines. 3.
