The position is a critical support role in the Times coverage on Iran. In the job, you will contribute to coverage of politics, culture, climate change, security, and international relations, among other topics, and you may be asked to help with breaking news, enterprise, investigations and innovative story forms. Our ideal candidate is a journalist or researcher with a proven ability to quickly identify important developments in an extremely complicated reporting environment and adhere to rigorous requirements for accuracy and sourcing. They should also be able to support the bureau manager with translation and some administrative tasks. Impeccable integrity, curiosity, skepticism and attention to detail are a must, as is an ability to write clearly and concisely in English. This is a full-time, paid position. Main responsibilities Working closely with the bureau chief, bureau manager and stringers to identify, research and contribute to news and enterprise stories. Planning travel, arranging interviews, finding contacts and completing other administrative tasks. Conducting interviews, producing interview summaries, compiling research memos and writing news stories. Contributing to live coverage. Monitoring current events across media in Iran and surrounding countries as needed. Obtaining, reading and analyzing reports and data. Performing other journalistic duties as determined by supervisors. Demonstrating support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world. Our ideal candidate Fluent in English with native Persian language skills, written and spoken. Organizational skills and ability to prioritize with strong attention to accuracy. Excellent communication skills, written and verbal. Shows initiative and independence; identifies and tackles tasks that need completion, without instruction. A good collaborator and receptive to feedback. A strong, demonstrable passion for journalism. Ability to deal with management, staff and sources in a highly professional manner. Professional judgment with respect to confidentiality is a must. In-depth, first-hand knowledge of Iran, politics and its recent history. Willingness to learn The Times culture, writing style and commitment to journalistic standards and ethics.
