The Guardian is looking for a reporter with experience producing news features, scoops and breaking news stories to cover civil liberties, dissent and political culture, particularly within higher education and progressive communities. We’re looking for someone who is well-sourced among civil society groups and academic and legal communities, and who can produce short, medium and longform stories that go behind the headlines and make an impact. They should be comfortable working in many formats, from short breaking news to longer features and investigative reports. They will bring compelling writing and well-honed storytelling chops to all of their work – from character-driven profiles to political trend stories about a wide range of topics defining the current American moment, with a focus on the forces restricting human rights and civil liberties and how communities are responding.
