## Description The Registered Nurse at Hood Memorial Hospital is primarily responsible for his/her patients. They shall possess the qualities most exemplary of the nursing profession. The Registered Nurse shall adhere to the Standards of Practice of HMH. The registered nurse is a member of the health care team and is responsible for providing quality nursing care utilizing HMH standards of care. Will uphold the philosophy and objectives of Nursing Service. Is a resource person for other members of the health care team. Responsible for patient care. Will utilize effective communication between personnel, physicians, other hospital departments, patients and families. **Description of Duties** 1. Insure the maintenance of quality patient care. 2. Utilize nursing process (assess, plan, implement and evaluate) for each patient on an individual basis. 3. Assist with QA audits. 4. Administer medications as ordered by the physician. 5. Document patient response to medication and procedure, using vital sign record, nurses’ notes, and any other form as appropriate. 6. Monitor patient receiving I.V. conscious sedation as per policy. 7. Administer blood, blood components, and hyperalimentation. a. Adhere to hospital policy regarding blood and blood components. 8. Adhere to hospital policy for administering hyperalimentation. 9. Adhere to policies and procedures. 10. Responsible for adherence to hospital policies and procedures for self and personal under his/her supervision. 11. Adhere to acceptable dress code. 12. Report incidents and injuries. 13. Report medication errors. 14. Demonstrate professional manner. 15. Comply with attendance policy. 16. Knowledgeable of all hospital safety codes, and perform duties during drills and actual emergencies. 17. Report unsafe conditions and incidents. 18. Provide clean environment. 19. Account for narcotics. 20. Assist in operational functions. 21. Assist department manager in maintenance of policies and procedures. 22. Schedule assignments of personnel as applicable. 23. Assist department director in data collection. 24. Monitors equipment function. 25. Maintain satisfactory communication. 26. Promote satisfactory relationships. 27. Share knowledge with others. 28. Participate in professional development activities. 29. Attend committee meetings as designated. 30. Attend in-service programs. 31. Maintain certification in Basic Life Support and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support as required. 32. Maintains knowledge of computerized systems within the healthcare system as needed for job performance. 33. Follows HMH’s Compliance Program and Federal and State Regulatory guidelines. 34. Adheres to the Nurse Practice Act and the Rules and Regulations of the LA State Board of Nursing. 35.
