[Northwestern - 12E GI Surgical Oncology Team Instagram Page](https://www.instagram.com/twelve.eazy/) **Patient Population:** GI, Surgical Oncology, Plastics, and Ears Nose & Throat **General Care Information** The **GI Surgical Oncology Unit on 12E** is a multifaceted unit that specializes in the care of a variety of post-surgical patients at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Our nurses provide care to extremely complex surgical patients that have often undergone life-altering surgery. Clinical nurses on the **GI Surgical Oncology (12E)** floor gain incredible experience and knowledge in a number of devices & procedures including ileostomies & colostomies, artificial airways including tracheostomies & T-tubes, negative pressure wound therapy, chest tubes, venous dopplers, and leech therapy. This unit allows for nurses to advance their skillset by combining cutting-edge technology and critical thinking skills to provide evidence-based comprehensive nursing care to our highly complex post-surgical patient population. Some of our Specialty surgeries include: - Tumor Removals - Ostomy Placements - Weight Loss Procedures - Reconstructive Flaps - Gender Affirming Surgeries In addition, the unit offers an environment that supports teamwork and collaboration from all members of the interdisciplinary team. Based on the NMH framework for practice, the registered professional clinical nurse (RN) is accountable and responsible for the provision and coordination of clinically competent, evidence-based care for an assigned group of patients that includes diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation and evaluation. The nurse adheres to the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing, the Code of Ethics, and the Nursing Social Policy Statement.
