Each employee contributes to the implementation of the Strategic Plan and are important to the achievement of the mission. | **Position Summary** | | --- | The Public Health Dietitian or Registered Nurse position provides leadership and coordination of team-based efforts for the operation of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) office. May assist with other nutrition related grants as needed. Performs professional and supervisory public health nutrition and breastfeeding activities by delivering direct care participant services as well as participating in program planning and evaluation as assigned. Supervises assigned employees in the completion of WIC program activities and in adherence to department policies. | **Essential Job Functions** | | --- | Clinical Nutrition & Participant Care - Conducts thorough nutrition assessments using health history, anthropometrics, lab data, and dietary habits - Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized care plans - Provides nutrition counseling tailored to cultural, economic, and psychosocial factors - Determines and manages follow-up care for high-risk participants - Authorizes exempt formulas, medical foods, and tailored WIC food packages - Consults with healthcare providers on participants’ nutritional needs, formula requiring prescription, and health concerns and makes referrals as needed - Documents assessments, education, referrals, and progress in electronic charts - Conducts low-risk appointments - Uses de-escalation techniques when needed - Uses Universal Precautions during hemoglobin testing to prevent exposure to bloodborne pathogens - Maintains participant confidentiality and ensures that participants are treated equally with respect, compassion, and empathy. - Assess and report client concerns when warranted as mandatory reporter. Nutrition Education & Outreach - Provides individual and group nutrition education to participants and community groups - Reviews, develops, and evaluates nutrition education materials - Assists with nutrition-related projects - Assists with social media content management as needed - Helps deliver two nutrition trainings annually for staff Staff Supervision & Program Support - Supervises and supports WIC Educators, ensuring accurate and timely work. Review and submits weekly timesheets, approves leave requests. - Manages workload distribution, caseloads, chart audits, and quality assurance activities - Conducts performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and staff motivation - Participates in hiring, training, and onboarding of new employees - Co-facilitates staff meetings and contributes to program planning and policy development - Contributes to developing and implementation of goals of the agency strategic, performance management, workforce development and quality improvement plans. - Perform other functions as required to fulfill the expectations of the position and the goals and objectives of assigned program/projects and the agency.
