We are seeking a ***Recreation Specialist III*** who is motivated to help individuals and families navigate life's challenges and achieve long-term wellness. Under limited supervision, this position manages and facilitates recreation programs for OIDD-Midlands Regional Center. Must be able to work independently and have the ability to make decisions and problem solve: - Plans, implements and coordinates recreational and leisure activities and/or programs to meet the needs, desires and abilities of residents. - Ensures alternate programs and weekend schedules are established for residents. This may include during weekends, hazardous or severe weather, and special circumstances. Ensures alternate programs are implemented and communicated within the residence of the consumers. Provides training to staff to ensure documentation and activities are carried out correctly and successfully. - Responsible for the oversight, planning and coordination of on campus activities and off campus outings. Ensures consumers are safely escorted or transported to and from recreation areas both on an off campus. - Provides direct hands on individual care to all consumers as needed. Follows sound professional techniques according to agency guidelines, rules and regulations. Participates in training and provides guidance to consumers in the development of activities of daily living skills. Monitors and transports consumers to and from programs, activities and off-campus appointments/trips. Ensures the health and safety of each consumer while assigned to a residential building. May be required to stay over or work an additional shift to ensure proper staffing levels are maintained to ensure the safety of consumers. - Constantly evaluates recreational needs and makes adjustments as needed to improve the recreational programs and services provided to the residents. - Procures and maintains the inventory of appropriate supplies, decorations and equipment needed for the execution of planned activities and events. - Responsible for reporting significant events and suspected abuse immediately per Agency and Office policies and procedures. - Performs additional duties as assigned. The position for this posting is located at Midlands Regional Center, an Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF-IID) of BHDD-OIDD located in Columbia, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities. High school diploma and two (2) years relevant experience managing recreational programs.Knowledge of various types of recreational activities. Knowledge of how to plan, organize and oversee recreational activities. Knowledge of recreational therapy principles, techniques and methods. Ability to motivate and sustain the interest of residents. Ability to instruct residents in various recreational activities. Ability to supervise and coordinate activities of staff. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability analyze conditions and reach sound conclusions.
